Remember the theme tune to hit 80’s sitcom Cheers? Something along the lines of “you wanna be where everybody knows your name”….well that’s kind of what came to mind for me when I first stumbled across Grindhouse Espresso. And to be honest, that’s what keeps me going back…as well as the fact they make a mean coffee.
In similar fashion to uber-popular coffee stops Garage and Bunker, there’s a bit of funk and quirkiness to how the place is decked out. Paintings by local artists line one wall, while empty hessian coffee bean sacks line the other (and the ceiling too!).
Tucked away in the laneway behind the Stones Corner Pub (just down from the…err…adult store…), it’s almost a case of blink and you’ll miss it. What Grindhouse Espresso lacks in street frontage and ‘look-at-me!’ on the outside, it makes up for with friendly service (refer to previous ‘Cheers’ comment!), positive attitude and most importantly awesome coffee at very reasonable prices.
It’s been a while since I’ve seen such care and love put into a 16oz cappuccino paper cup. And not only is it full of love, it’s full of punch (that keeps me wired all day), with a creamy blend and no hint of burnt edges or insipid wateriness.
Also on offer at Grindhouse Espresso are selections of pastries, fruit loaf, banana loaf and a few other random tasty treats to accompany your perfect coffee. There’s room to sit and enjoy the free Wi-Fi or relax with a paper while the friendly team strike up some light hearted conversation and play a bit of get-to-know-you.
With their vibrant nature and great coffee (and their uncanny ability to remember your name), Grindhouse Espresso is a welcome addition to the Logan Rd strip at Stones Corner and will no doubt help give Stones Corner the lift it needs in attitude and quality food and beverage services.
